HOW TO PREPARE FOR YOUR
OSHA Medical Surveillance Examination

SAFEGUARDING YOUR HEALTH AND SAFETY
As part of a Medical Surveillance Program, your employer may require certain employees to undergo baseline and periodic medical examinations to help identify potential work-related health risks. This policy complies with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations.
WHAT YOU NEED TO DO

BEFORE THE EXAM

Complete the Online Respirator Form

If you have have an open Respirator Medical Clearance case, log into MyHealthForce to submit the online form.

Complete the Occupational/General Medical History Form in the Packet
-
Take time to complete the form accurately before your appointment.
-
Bring the completed form with you to the clinic where the examining provider will review it with you.

Avoid Loud Noise Exposure for 24 Hours Before Your Exam
-
Stay away from loud engines, machinery, gunfire, or other high-noise environments to ensure accurate hearing test results.

Fast for 8-10 Hours Before the Lab Collection
-
DO NOT eat or drink anything except water, black coffee, or tea without cream and/or sugar for 8-10 hours before your appointment.

Reschedule If You Are Ill

If you are feeling sick on the day of your exam, notify HealthForce to reschedule.

DURING THE EXAM
The exam will assess your overall health and ability to safely perform your job. The examining provider will:

Review your medical history and any work-related exposures.
-
Conduct necessary tests based on your job requirements, which may include:
-
Pulmonary Function Testing (PFT),
-
Bloodwork and other screenings,
-
Basic physical including Hearing and Vision Tests,
-
Chest X-Ray,
-
Resting or Treadmill ECG, and
-
Review other signs of work-related health concerns.

AFTER THE EXAM

If the examining provider has concerns about you safely returning to work, they will discuss it with you.

Access your lab reports and other records at MyHealthForce.
ACCESSING YOUR RESULTS
Clearance Letter and Medical Summary Report
-
Your Clearance Letter will be posted on MyHealthForce within 90 days of your exam.

Your supervisor will access your Clearance Letter on the website. They will NOT have access to your personal medical information.
Accessing Your Medical Records

You will always have access to your personal medical records through MyHealthForce, in accordance with OSHA regulation 1910.1020.
